Education – “It is possible to see a clear analogy between the mission of the Shepherd in the Church and that of the prudent and generous educator in the Montessori method, who with tenderness, with love and with a wise evaluation of gifts, knows how to discover and bring to light the most hidden virtues and capacities of the child.” -Pope St. John XXIII
As the saintly Pope notes, there are hidden virtues and capacities in a child – above all the religious potential. The sisters, by applying of the method of education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori and her followers, seeks to “discover and bring to light” these capacities for children from birth through adulthood.
Parent Education – A child’s education begins at birth. The Church rightly recognizes that parents are the first and primary educators. The Community ardently wishes to assist parents in this most noble task by accompanying them, sharing practices and principles from their experience and learning, and above all, helping them to discern the graces that God is working within them and their children.
Training teachers – For this apostolate, adequate formation of teachers is essential. The teachers must have a comprehensive formation in the Catholic faith, human development, the humanities and the technique and practice of Montessori education as applied both in the secular and religious spheres.
Teaching the Catholic Faith – Dr. Montessori already applied her principles to the teaching of the Catholic faith in her own lifetime. Our experience shows that the wise application of these methods to the religious formation of children leads to joy, spontaneity of relationship with Jesus, and a deep and broad knowledge of the Catholic faith that is well-integrated into the whole of life.
